Encerrados por si las dudas / At home... just in case

Desde el viernes estamos encerrados casi a piedra y lodo dentro de la casa. Nos enteramos en la noche que se suspendían las clases de Michelle en precaución por los brotes de influenza en todo el DF y Estado de México y desde ese día estamos en casa, checando las noticias, lo que se dice en Twitter y otras redes sociales.

Lo que yo he percibido (y de lo cual escribí en mi nuevo proyecto, Mexicanos Pinches ) es que no hay mucha confianza en lo que se está diciendo sobre número de enfermos y muertos. He leído reacciones desde incredulidad de que sea tan grave, hasta al contrario, que las cosas son peores que lo que se está mostrando en TV, basándose en lo que informan las autoridades.

También no han fallado las teorías de conspiración (que todo es para ocultar desde una devaluación hasta para que gane el PAN), pero esto último realmente no le estoy prestando mucha atención. Suficiente ruido y desinformación hay ya.

La parte buena de ser mexicana es que muchos lo toman con humor (aunque sí estén preocupados), como sucedió la primera noche de esta noticia. En Twitter mucha gente bromeó al respecto e incluso hacían comparaciones con Resident Evil, el virus T-9 y otras cosas así. Sí, yo sé que esto es muy simple, pero reir me ayudó a ver las cosas con perspectiva y con menos miedo.

Y pues acá andamos, el único que va a tener que salir mañana será Arturo y pues con paliacate aunque sea, porque los tapabocas se acabaron por todos lados. En fin, esto está de locos, pero estamos bien  y eso es lo importante.

Since Friday we are almost locked inside home. We knew about the suspension of classes in Mexico City and Mexico state on Thursday night, so we have been here since Michelle didn't have to go to school, and we've been checking news, what is being said on Twitter and other social networks.


What I have felt (and I wrote about it in Spanish in my new project, Mexicanos Pinches, and in English in A Mexican View) is that there's not so much confidence in what it's being said about sick people and fatalities. I've been reading reactions of incredulity to this, going from believing this is not so bad as authorities says or things are worst than TV, newspapers and radio are saying, based in what authorites have said.


Also, I've read conspiracy theories. Some people say this is to hide a devaluation or to make the official party win in the coming elections, but really I'm not paying much attention to this. There's enough 'noise' and confusion already to believe them.


The good thing about being Mexican is that many of us took this with sense of humor (even if they are worried), for example, the first night we knew about the flu, on Twitter many people joked about this was like Resident Evil and the T-9 virus was attacking and stuff like that.Yes, I know this is silly, but this helped me and others to see things with a little less panic.


And here we are, the only one who is going to work tomorrow is Arturo, and with a scarf at least, because there are no more face masks on drugstores. :( This is feeling like a crazy movie, but we are ok and that's what's important.
