Hijos sin madre / People without mother

(English version below)

No, it's not an insult (in Mexico telling someone he/she doesn't have a mother is an insult), it's just a reflection I've been making about certain way some people threats mothers in this country (I don't know if anywhere else, but I'm talking about what I've seen in Mexico).

Some people seem to think that being a mother is disadvantage for a woman who wants to work. They seem to think that having kids removes her skills and her possibility to be useful in the workplace. They are those "kids without mother" I'm talking about.

I'm sure those people got part of their abilities and their current success came from someone and since mothers are almost always the ones who take care of educating children, I can guess big part of who they are is because a mother raised them and give them the tools to be who they are now.

But this kind of people seems to forget this in the moment a woman tells them she has children. And when they do this, they loose more than they can understand.

Those mothers who come asking for a job have skills (besides the ones related with the job) that can be extended to the office. They are organizers, multitaskers, conflict managers, can manage different responsibilities (kids, house chores, home finances). They are good with details, since every single aspect of their life asks them to do so. In the eventuality someone gives them a job they are better than any man I know in managing their private life without affecting their professional life.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I'm still wondering when company owners will get it and give opportunities to someone who will work hard and give them their best because, finally, they are doing this not only for professional reasons, but also to give them a better life to their kids. I don't think there's a better reason to do their best than this one.
